H.264/AVC output options

Choose smart-render or full-transcode H.264 settings while retaining compatible profile and level behaviour.

Smart-render H.264

For Match Source output, safe interior H.264 packets are copied and boundary pictures use the validated software x264 path. The boundary encoder must produce a sequence compatible with the continuing copied stream.

Full-transcode H.264

A Force Recode profile can set dimensions, frame-rate handling, rate control and other delivery properties. Optional full-transcode hardware encoding is available through a tested NVIDIA, Intel or AMD backend; it is off by default.

Compatibility guidance

  • Do not raise profile/level beyond the receiving device's documented support.
  • Use MP4/MOV only with compatible selected audio/subtitle tracks.
  • Use Matroska when broad stream preservation is more important than device convention.
  • Test mid-GOP cuts and the final frames, not only file opening.
