Manage without losing a known-good profile
Duplicate a built-in or working custom profile before changing codec, container or stream policy. Give the copy a descriptive name that states both the intended container and processing mode.
List operations
- Create or duplicate a profile.
- Edit the selected profile and its advanced options.
- Move profiles to a useful order and toggle favourite status.
- Import or export profile definitions for backup and supported interchange.
- Restore built-in defaults without deleting unrelated project files.
Back up and restore profiles
Native backups retain all persisted custom-profile fields, ordering, enabled/favourite flags and the default selection. They are profile backups, not backups of your licence, projects or media. VideoReDo export is a separate compatibility format and does not retain every SmartCut64 setting.
Both the portable and installed Windows builds normally store active settings in the current user's registry. Copying the portable program folder alone does not transfer these settings; use the native profile backup file.
- In 1.0.33 or later, open Tools > Edit Output Profiles and choose Back Up Profiles. Save the .smartcut-profiles.json file in your chosen backup location.
- To transfer profiles, copy that backup file to the other PC, open Tools > Edit Output Profiles and choose Restore Profiles. Both installed and portable Windows builds support this workflow.
- Review the loaded profiles, then press Save to commit the restore. Cancel leaves saved profiles unchanged. Restore replaces custom profiles, ordering and the default selection rather than merging separate collections.
- Before a restore is committed, SmartCut64 saves a recovery backup of the previously saved profiles. If that backup cannot be written, the restore is not applied.
Test every custom profile
Use a short representative source containing the audio, subtitle and metadata types you intend to preserve. Read the export report; a file that merely opens is not enough evidence that the selected stream and timing policy worked.
