Saving and output

Output processing and completion

Read progress phases, pause or abort safely, and interpret completion or failed validation.

Progress phases

  • Boundary encoding — unsafe pictures around an exact mid-GOP edit are being encoded.
  • Fast packet copy — reusable compressed packets are being copied without video re-encoding.
  • Full transcode — all kept pictures are being decoded and encoded.
  • Validation — the temporary destination is being checked before final replacement.

Pause and abort

Pause suspends the active worker where the selected operation supports it. Abort cancels processing and removes the incomplete temporary delivery. The editor project and source remain unchanged.

Completion evidence

A successful result includes the destination and export report. With Validate output file after export switched off, success does not include a SHA-256 checksum. With it switched on, additional completed-file checks and checksum calculation must finish successfully. Open Tools > Show Last Export Report for the result or failure details.

Optional validation and network output

Program Options > Output & Folders > Validate output file after export is off by default. Enable it to read the completed output again, perform additional checks and calculate a SHA-256 checksum. This adds time and network traffic. Normal encoding, intermediate consistency and file-writing checks remain active when it is off. Validation does not replace watching and listening to the completed edit.

For network destinations, intermediate work uses local temporary storage when space permits, while the final mux writes directly to a temporary file on the share. The completed file is promoted only on success. Network MP4/MOV files keep their index at the end to avoid another full-file rewrite; local output keeps its usual fast-start handling.

Temporary files after a network export

From 1.0.30, SmartCut64 uses a tracked temporary file beside the destination without creating extra export folders there. Processing intermediates stay local. Owned temporary files are removed after export; locked or interrupted work is retried in the background after workers exit and when the app next starts.

Active exports, completed videos and older untracked folders are left alone. If an older folder remains, check its contents and whether an export is still running before removing it. This cleanup does not add a full-file validation pass; optional output validation remains off by default.
